How do you feel about improving your health? Are you considering improving it because you have to? Or because you want to? This is very important because how you feel about it determines what you will do about it.
If maintained properly the body is an amazing self healing instrument, if maintained poorly it lacks the strength required to heal. The mind has the ability to learn everything it needs to know to be healthy, but until it receives direction from your soul and spirit the knowledge is never implemented.
"Total, unconditional acceptance of yourself is the first step in building a positive self-image." -Nido Qubein
You don't have to be a body builder or a model. You should however love who you are and realize that no one has a perfect body and concentrate instead on improving your health and enjoying your life. What's wrong with just shedding some weight?
It is disturbing how many people world wide are becoming obese. It's a fact that the extra weight can lead to diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and plenty of other ailments. It's uncomfortable being overweight, it's hard to find proper fitting clothes and let's not forget the impact to one's self esteem. Remember also that being thin does not mean you are in shape either. Many people who appear fit on the outside are not on the inside due to inactivity, poor diet, high stress jobs etc.
So how do you tell what level of fitness you are at? First of all, how do you feel? Are you well rested, well fed, full of energy and generally happy? If so you are on the right track and are already active. On the other hand, are you out of breath when you climb a set of stairs? Do you get tired quickly? Eat too much or too little and are not happy with yourself and your appearance? If you are then it's time to start improving your health now, before someone says you have to!
"What you see is what you get, and who you feel like is who you really are." -Denis Waitley
Remember the Think = Feel = Act formula. Start thinking about improving your health and what the rewards will be for you, this will make you feel good about changing your habits and because it is easy to do something that feels good then you will have success. If you go about it in a negative way, thinking that you are changing to conform to society, then you will not follow through. Don't shift the blame from yourself it is completely unproductive.
To help you get on your way to improving your health, read through the following 10 things you can do to live a happier and healthier life without breaking your budget, your will power or your self esteem.
1. Change your eating habits. Diet does not have to be a bad word and it does not have to mean eating tree bark and rice cakes. Stand in any aisle at a supermarket and really look around for a change. Start noticing all the convenience foods and snacks available and it becomes evident why so many people are over weight. Start putting healthier choices into your cart, V8 or juice instead of pop or crystal drink mixes, whole grain bread instead of white, fruits and vegitables instead of potatoe chips and chocolate bars. Cut back on your portions and have healthy snacks between meals.
Did you know dieting is easier when you love the food and you can get it delivered. That's whats great about Dr. Sanford Siegal's COOKIE DIET™Why leave the house? Get home delivery.Chocolate, Oatmeal Raisin, Blueberry, Banana & Coconut flavored cookies and other products that taste great and help you lose the weight. Over 500,000 people have done just that.
2. Try not to watch as much television. Have you ever noticed that you get bombarded by food commercials at strategic times? Many are aimed at people sitting around watching tv especially in the evening. Companies like McDonalds know that even if you change the channel during a commercial, it is going to take you up to 5 seconds to do so. Next time you are watching see how much imaging they cram into the first 5 to 10 seconds, they want you thinking about the product even after you have changed the channel. If you limit your tv time it will help to cut out late night snacking. Spend your down time doing something constructive like spending time with your family or start working on a home or internet business.
3. Do you smoke? How much is this habit/addiction costing you financially and personally? It's not attractive, it stinks, you stink, it stains your fingers, your teeth, your mustache. It damages your lungs, your skin color, your gums and your brain. The second hand smoke bothers and harms other as well. It's no longer socially acceptable, more and more places are becoming smoke free and it cuts into your work day because you have to go outside. Times are changing and rightfully so.
How much do you spend on shortening your life? I know first hand how hard it is to quit. I remember saying I was going to quit when they hit $2.00 a pack, then $3.00, then finally my price was $7.50 a pack. Now coupled with the cost of smoking, how much is it costing you for insurance?
The good news is, you can Stop Smoking in 7 Days with Cigarrest. Your first 30 days is free with no obligation (just pay s&h).
Check with your employers plan, some will cover or subsidize programs to help you quit so it may not end up costing you anything. Quitting will not effect your insurance cost right away but if you quit, you can submit a request after the insurances waiting period to get your rates adjusted, the savings will be significant and you will improve your health.
4. Get regular exercise. How much do you need? Well that depends on what you want. If you want the body of a Greek god, then you will do well to seek out a personal trainer who can get you on track and help you obtain your goal. Most people however would just like to be able to lose some weight and regain some stamina. That can be accomplished by simply starting to take walks. Yes it is that easy. Start with a block, it gets you out in the fresh air, you interact with others, you start to smile more and before you know it, a block turns into 2 blocks, then 3, then a mile. You don't have to go out in bad weather, if you miss a day or two you can always make it up.
You can also get a gym membership or purchase one of hundreds of videos or books on different exercise programs or purchase some home fitness equipment. Do something you find fun, remember, improving your health is easier when you enjoy what you are doing.
5. Get proper rest. The cock crows in the morn, to tell us to rise, and he that lies late will never be wise. For early to bed, and early to rise, is the way to be healthy, and wealthy and wise. The old proverb rings true, are you getting proper rest? I know that busy schedules do not always allow you to do this. You may not be able to do this everyday, but if you start doing it a few days a week, before you know it you will find time to do it more often.
6. Take some alone time. You need to have time to yourself to basically 'chill out'. How you chill out is up to you, read a book, go for a walk, play solitaire, whatever works for you. Shut the world off for a short time, turn off your cell phone, turn off the tv, enjoy some silence for a while. It helps to reduce your stress level and gives you a chance to reconnect with yourself.
7. Reduce the amount of alcohol you consume. Alcohol in moderation can actually be helpful to the body, but that being said, it does not mean then that if you have more it will be better for it! Examine how much alcohol you consume in a month, try cutting that in half, if you find you are having trouble cutting back then there may be more to it, if so check out the many resources available that can help you.
8. Take health supplements. Sometimes you can't always eat properly, so you should be making up for that by taking proper vitamins and supplements. Yes they can sometimes be expensive, but most are very reasonable. There is lots of competition out there for your money so shop around. Why not check out this Super Reds Berry Formula Free Bottle Offer. Supports heart, cardiovascular and skin health. 5000+ ORAC and antioxidant blend. from Purity Products, a leader in the supplement industry.
Remember though that cheap isn't necessarily the best. When you are taking supplements to assist you in improving your health and you're unsure what is best for you, ask your physician for advise especially if you are already taking medications. There may be some interactions with the medication that could cause side effects.
9. Meditation.
Did you know that people who meditate everyday are many times happier than those who don't? They're also healthier, live longer and their sense of well-being is much higher than that of non-meditators. Meditators' minds are also sharper, and their problem-solving abilities are better. That's one reason why many high-powered executives, and even CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, meditate.
Did you also know that meditators make a LOT more pleasurable brain chemicals, the ones you feel on those days when you feel REALLY good and they make these feel good brain chemicals pretty much ALL THE TIME? Did you know that meditators have dramatically better mental health? They have less anxiety, anger, depression, fear and they have better human relationships, more friends, and feel much more fulfilled in their lives?
So with all these benefits for improving your health, why isn't everyone meditating?
You know why. To get these results, you have to meditate four or five hours a day, often for decades, and few people are willing to do this. And, meditation, especially at first, isn't much fun. The initial experience is somewhere between boring and frustrating. Finally, it takes quite a long time to notice any significant results, much less to experience the benefits I just mentioned.
What if you could meditate as deeply as a Zen monk, literally at the touch of a button, and do it the very first time, and every time and also make all those happy brain chemicals the first time and every time? As well within days or weeks instead of years or decades you could begin receiving all the benefits. the physical health, the mental health, the clarity-of-mind, better relationships and the overall sense of well-being without having to learn any complex mental gymnastics, or spend hours a day to get all of this.

10. Laugh. Laughter is not only contagious, it is also good for you. It helps to relieve stress, and releases endorphins into your body that give you a feeling of euphoria and pleasure. It's also great for improving your health, because it is good for your heart, blood pressure, anxiety and aids in relaxation and sleeping. You could be in a miserable mood or not feeling well, then you watch, see or hear something funny and start laughing. It completely turns your mood around and provides comfort to you. When you feel good it helps to boost your energy level and assists the performance of your immunity system. To prove my point, watch this video below. Remember how you were feeling before you watch it and then see how you feel after it.
It's hard not to laugh at a video like this, and when you are finished watching it, you tend to look at more of them, because laughter is not only contagious, it's also addictive, but in a good way.
If you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, then perhaps it's time to start improving your health by making some necessary changes in your life. You will soon start to realize, it feels good to feel good!
