What Do You Want?
In this section you will learn about goal setting and how important it is to define your purpose, so you can make a plan and take the action needed to get there! A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream, with a plan and a deadline -Harvey MacKay
Design your life? When you tell people this about 90% of them look at you like your from another planet. It’s sad but most people really don’t feel that they have any control over their lives. They are having enough trouble getting from paycheque to paycheque, never mind even thinking about doing something like designing their lives. People tend to get locked into life as it is right now, do the same things all the time and then wonder why nothing changes in their lives or why they don’t advance at all. Where you are today is the result of the actions you have taken in the past and if you continue to do the same things in the present then your future will continue to reflect things as they are now.
| The Basic Formula of Personal Development Thought + Emotion + Action = Result What you think about determines how you feel, (positive/negative) How you feel affects your actions in life, (good/bad, productive/un-productive) Your actions determine your results or outcome. (Forward/backward,Richer/Poorer.) |
What's perplexing is even when people are made aware of this formula, the majority brush it off as that silly ‘Positive Thinking Stuff’ which never works for them. Then they continue to dwell on average and ordinary thoughts that never spark a fire under them and they live out their lives in the average and ordinary. These thoughts keep them in their little box of comfort where nothing ever really changes. Which is ok because change can be scary. Then as they get closer to death, they finally start to realize, very often too late, what their true potential was and how they never even scratched the surface of it. Why is it so many people ‘Dream’ about Success, Yet so few ever try to attain it? The answer is Fear; - Fear of Failure.
- Fear of What Others Think About You.
- Fear of Success and the Changes It Brings.
What do YOU want? Is Fear getting in the way of attaining it? "Your purpose explains what you are doing with your life. Your vision explains how you are living your purpose. Your goals enable you to realize your vision." -Bob Proctor

How To Define Your PurposeFirst of all, what are you passionate about in life, what do you want to do and what do you want to experience? Don't think about the money side of it right now! Just close your eyes and think. What Do YOU want? Don't think of what other people think you should be, don't think about what is expected of you by others. Just imagine what your ideal life would be. Remember, at this point don't think about how much it will cost, don't think about how you will accomplish it, just think about your life and how you would live it if you couldn't fail.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert Einstein
Remember now, this is all about you! Many people say, "I don't know what my purpose is, I don't know if I even have one." The answer to this is You Do! and You Do! I believe everybody knows exactly what they want, many just don't believe they can do it! Many never discuss what they truly want because people will laugh at them and tell them there is no way they can do that, quit dreaming and get a good job, that's all you really need. Is it?
"Anyone who attempts anything original in the world must expect a bit of ridicule." -Alberto Jauntorena
Others believe they are victims of circumstance and they can never move beyond where they are now. No one in their family has ever gone beyond a certain income level. They don't know anyone that is successful. They feel hopeless, powerless and have no resources, so they give up and don't even try!
"Live out of your imagination, not your history." -Arthur Bryan
If you could do whatever you wanted to do to make a living what would it be? What would you do for Free? What do you like doing so much that doing it wouldn't feel like work at all? What would make you get up in the morning with a smile on your face ready to start the day?
"The best career advice given to the young is Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it." -Katharine Whitehorn
No one can define your purpose for you. That's your job. I can offer advice and inspiration. The rest is up to you. Don't hurry, but also don't delay, don't let contemplation be replaced by procrastination! To help you with finding your purpose, I suggest the following; -Keep an Open Mind to different philosophies and opportunity, don't discount something just because you don't understand it initially. Not everything is for everybody and you should never feel pushed into anything. On the flip side don't rule something out because someone else may think it's strange. Think what YOU want to think! - Download the two ebooks offered on our Home Page. Both these books, (The science of getting rich by Wallace D. Wattles and As a man thinkith by James Allen.) are short and easy to read. They were written nearly a century ago but their logic still applies today. I guarantee these books will help to inspire you. -Watch the movie The Secret (Extended Edition) This movie/motivational video was created by Rhonda Byrne who was inspired by The Science of Getting Rich and deals with the Law of Attraction. This is a natural law or as some would call a 'divine law'. Our thoughts do give off frequencies and we do attract what we put out, be it positive or negative. It has been recommended by Oprah and disputed by some religions. The movie features many well known authors, philosophers and Doctor's of Science and Medicine. Personally I feel it's value is represented in the ability to cause people to think and talk about different possibilities. You can rent it at most video outlets if you want to try before you buy. To view a great Visualization video from 'The Secret' click here -Write down your ideas. For the time being you may want to keep them to yourself until you learn to have enough confidence to think what you want to think regardless of opinion or circumstance.
A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a frown on the right man's brow. -Charles Brower
Remember history is full examples of people with 'crazy' ideas. Marconi's friends and relatives tried to have him institutionalized for daring to think that he could communicate with others 'without wires', Galileo was stopped in his tracks by the Catholic Church for believing and trying to prove that the earth rotated around the sun. He was placed under house arrest for this belief. In the section, Make A Plan we'll go over getting more specific with the goals and ideas you come up with, but for now focus on what it is you want. I also highly recommend you listen to the audio version of the Science of Getting Rich. It is narrated by Dr. Denis Waitley. I listen to it at least once a week and it continues to inspire me and evoke new ideas. I recommend playing it on your way to and from work. Did you know the average commuter could obtain the equivalent in knowledge of a University education in less then 2 years by listening to audio books on their commute? Or, you can be like everyone else and just listen to the radio everyday!
When all think alike, no one thinks very much. -Walter Lippman
-Meditation. Sometimes you really need to clear your mind of all the clutter that is keeping you from focusing. The best way I have found to truly and deeply meditate is using Holosync Technology by Centerpointe Research. Creator Bill Harris has been involved in personal development for over thirty-five years as a seeker, teacher, public speaker, author, musician, composer, therapist, workshop leader, and business owner. A student of ancient and modern research into the nature of the mind, he has studied and practiced a variety of traditional and modern transformational techniques and approaches with a variety of teachers.
